The Dragon Scale plectrum is a remembrance of all you have overcome.

Origins

The Dragon Scale concept was first devised in 2018, and the pick was the first of its kind as far as we knew. Its unusual appearance immediately brought to mind a scale taken from some ancient beast, and the name followed naturally.

Over time, the Dragon Scale has grown beyond its original material into a broader design—one that can take on different forms while retaining the same shape, symbolism, and underlying purpose. Each edition offers its own interpretation of the scale carried back from the fight.

Features

The Dragon Scale has a distinctive profile designed to feel substantial and controlled in the hand. Rather than using a traditional wide bevel, its edges gradually taper toward the playing tip, preserving more material while allowing the pick to wear into the player’s natural angle over time.

As with other Iron Age picks, this one is no lightweight. At approximately 4mm thick, it provides a comfortable, secure hold without requiring the fingers to pinch down excessively. Its compact dimensions retain maneuverability despite the added thickness.

The Original Edition

The Original Edition is the Dragon Scale as it first became known: aluminum hex suspended in green glow resin and finished with a blood-red engraving. Because aluminum at the playing edge could eventually become exposed as the surrounding resin wore down, the tip is separately cast from a harder composite resin to create a more practical playing surface.

Its tapered profile leaves additional material at the point and allows the edge to settle naturally into the player’s attack. A full satin finish adds grip while producing a slight resistance across the strings and a subtly textured tone.

Together, these details give the Original Edition its unmistakable armored appearance and the dark, relic-like character that first defined the Dragon Scale.

The Prismatic Edition

First introduced in November 2025 through a small giveaway of Dragon Scale Experimental picks, the Prismatic Edition brings that original experiment back as a finished release.

Its specialty acrylic composite is filled with intense, color-shifting depth, revealing shades of blue, green, gold, violet, and red as the light and viewing angle change. This is shown on both sides of the pick. The flowing burl pattern varies throughout the material, making the appearance of every pick unique. Because of its layered composite construction, slight irregularity may be visible along the finished edge.

Fully functional as a guitar pick but created first as a collector’s piece, the Prismatic Edition prioritizes extraordinary visual depth and vibrance over maximum wear resistance. It is best suited for collecting, lighter playing, recording, and occasional use rather than prolonged aggressive playing.
