**Battery pack (Installation kit) recommended if your guitar does not already have a power source installed. This is strictly for the LED, the switch itself will function without power.
This model of killswitch acts just like a toggle. When pressed, it remains engaged & all sound is eliminated. That is, until you press the button again to disengage & resume normal sound.
It can however, still be used rhythmically to create momentary killswitch effects, it just takes a bit more effort to match the speed of our regular momentary switches.
The mechanism itself acts by grounding out the signal to your pickups. Meaning the signal never reaches back to your amp & is stopped at the source. This doesn't harm your electronics in any way, nor does it create any unwanted popping noises when activated in distorted guitars.

Can you use the killswitch without the LED? For sure, simply cap off the two lighting wires. The switch will still function 100%

this switch looks good, and works as advertised…it is pricey for a toggle switch, but I got exactly what I was looking for. The body is pretty big as I had to wallow out the opening for an existing switch on my bass from about 5mm to about 16mm. I’m glad I had the room in my electronics cavity. You have to be extremely careful making the hole for it because the lip is super small. I got the non-LED type so wiring was super simple. Only time will tell if the switch will hold up, but for $35, it better

Positive with some issues: #1 Using gator clip test leads I was unable to make the toggle click off while using the LED option. #2 It would be useful if the page(s) with the switches would state in high visibility text that it is recommended to have a battery kit. #3 Despite the extra picks, quality plastic bag, and business cards a sticker would be a nice addition. I do have an older model with the helmet logo, which Emma was very considerate in confirming before shipping. As long as the switch's function stands the test of time I'm satisfied.
