These Gladiator picks will be crafted using Polyetherimide (PEI), or "Ultem" as it's more commonly known as. This is a high-strength & rigid material that looks & feels similar to acrylic but is much tougher & resistant to abrasion. It's a material used in many fields such as engineering & in medical gear when quality materials are depended to get the job done.
This isn't the first time we use this material but these these picks have been in the works, to the backburner, & back for what seems like years!
We're finally proud to have them available to you as a pick option for those who are more practical-minded, who want to see & feel the performance, but also value a guitar pick that's crafted specially for them & helps to connect them better to their music.
For a reference of durability throughout our pick range, we would say that on the softer (but in many cases, more visually attractive) end, we have resin guitar picks & wooden picks.
Next up are the acrylic picks such as the "Crystal" Spearheads, to the more luxurious Imperial Collection & Ragnarok Collection.
Right above these are the faux ivory picks which are dense & made to mimic real bone.
Next up will be this Gladiator collection which is actually quite a bit more durable.
Finally we have our Legio Ferrata collection & Megalith/Goliath Ultra picks, which in some cases, a single pick can last for months on end!
We talked about this a bit already. These picks are made from a durable engineering-grade plastic that's tough & abrasion resistant. This will make these picks an excellent choice for those who play with a heavy hand or are into the heavy chugs that extend beyond Friday night at the local watering hole.
This is arguably one of the most important aspects of a guitar pick & we've paid extra attention to it for sure. These picks will have a coarse texture on the faces similar to the ivory Parthenon picks. On top of that, each pick is designed with 2 grip holes to help prevent the pick from shifting & turning on you mid-song. Finally, there's the debossed "Sword & Laurel" logo to further aid in tactile grip.
When you pair these aspects with the 3mm thickness, you also get a comfortable grasp on a pick that's not too thin & flimsy, nor too thick & cumbersome. It's a perfect balance between comfort, grip, & practicality!
For the most part this pick collection will have sharp tapered profiles at the playing tips. Coupled with the zero-flex material, the result is a precise & articulate picking performance.
You get the benefit & comfort of holding a thicker 3mm pick,
while also getting the feel of playing with a pick that's only 1.5mm
Aside from the functional aspects of the pick, lets talk about the looks.
The gladiator picks all feature sides & bevels that are polished to a high gloss which create a pleasing contrast & sharp definition against the textured faces.
Also while it's harder to notice on the black Ultem versions of these picks, they are translucent & have a certain pop to them when backlit.
The logos are also deeply engraved in a 3d manner which you can see through the side of the polished edges. Not only that but the logos are filled with our signature aqua-blue UV resin that charges & glows under UV light.
It's something subtle but it give it an added level of depth & complexity to our relatively simple design.
Last but not least is the original designs!
We sought out to create something different that stood out from the crowd in 2015 & that's something we strive for to this day. An entire theme to champion as our own.
A few years later handcrafted guitar picks started to take off and we saw many new players enter the field.
Some came in with similar motifs to "Iron Age", others sought to copy the materials we used, or mimic certain design characteristics.
It's all part of what comes with being a leader & if you value originality & setting the trend, these picks might be for you!
There will be 6 new guitar pick models to choose from & released in pair for a total of 3 pick releases over the summer of 2022.
Much like the all of the other pick collections we have, these will also be a permanent addition to the lineup.
We plan on releasing some limited edition guitar picks in black Ultem versions initially.
After this however, we will continually stock up on the light amber versions.
These are a collection of picks that will always be back in stock eventually.
We will be releasing these picks in pairs starting with the first two (Gladius & Retiarius) on July 1st.
We've got many other items on schedule including time sensitive releases like signature picks among other items, so the 2nd & 3rd batch of gladiator picks could take up to August to finally release.
Our Aim is to have the Provocators & Secutor picks ready before the end of July & then the Final 2 models ready in the first week or two of August.
Then, finally switch over to the light colored amber versions shortly after.
As mentioned earlier in this article, the first releases of these picks will be a black Ultem material.
This is the same material used in the Sammy Duet v2 picks & also used to make the Doom Slayer picks. We would have liked to keep using it but unfortunately we haven't been able to find a replacement supplier for it.
So the black Ultem gladiators will only be available once for all models.
We have two 6x6" material plates remaining & those will be used to make more of the most popular models. After this, we'll switch over to the light amber Ultem picks.
Thanks for reading & looking into our latest pick collection.

]]>Iron Age Guitar Accessories provides a variety of luxury guitar picks that are loved by all its customers.
We offer a service for personalizing single orders where you can get them engraved and filled with glow resin based on a design you provide us!
When you place an order for a pick, there is also an option under our “Guitar Picks” tab for an engraving/filling add-on service.
You must purchase this service along with your desired guitar pick, and for each pick you want engraved/filled,
in order to continue the process of personalizing your guitar pick(s).
We encourage all our customers to try out this unique service!
Once you have placed the order that includes the guitar pick of your choice and the add-on service, please email our support email,
support@ironageaccessories.com, the details of what you would like engraved/filled on your pick along with your order number.
We ask that you provide us with a black and white image to make it more efficient on our part in terms of processing the image and engraving it onto your pick.
If you choose multiple picks and only one add-on service, please specify in the “notes” section of the order,
or in the email you will send to our support email, which pick you would like engraved/filled.
We offer this personalization service for only the Imperial Collection, Ragnarok Collection, and Ivory Parthenon Collection.
We have made the decision for just these collections due to the other materials not being engravable, such as the LF Collection.
Limited edition picks are not engravable as well since those picks are numbered and there might be a chance that the engraving process can go wrong.
If that happens, we lose a pick which is something we want to avoid with those limited edition drops.
The picks below feature geometric shapes requested by customers. These engravings were done on Xiphos model guitar picks.
Next was a pair of Rings of Saturn engravings done on a Gungnir & Imperator with their respective glow fills of green & aqua.
Finally we have a faux ivory Parthenon Spearhead with a bare engraving showing off the intricate details of the design.
Tier 1 - Green crystal acrylic picks with custom engraving, aqua glow, & fully polished.
Here’s a couple examples of custom guitar picks we’ve produced so far…
Tier 1 - Pearlescent acrylic with custom engraving, green UV glow fill, and fully polished finish.
Tier 3 - Green crystal acrylic picks with custom engraving, no engraving fill, and fully polished. Halo Guitars & the San Antonio band Wulfholt.

The first 20 or so pick orders are finished & will begin shipping tomorrow, then the rest will start rolling out throughout the week.

P.S.
The Ragnarok Series "Introductory Special" will be extended from the 11th until the closing on the 13th. That means all items in this "Series" will remain at a "15% off" until then.
]]>
These pictured are only the prototypes,
and the final versions will have small design tweaks,
as well as use the intended material to match the theme (Not pure black).
Seeing as how there are no emblems on these,
the faces will have a brushed finish for a grip enhancement.
The edges, or bevels,
will be polished to a high gloss for a smooth strike across the strings.
There will be a couple customization options available too.
It's all preference but polished faces or satin bevels (similar to a "ghost rim" or "master finish", but finer in grit )
can also be accommodated upon request. Just leave a note with your order.
A satin-finished bevel will produce a brighter tone with more "bite" on the attack,
instead of a squeaky-clean glide.
A polished face will show off the depth & pearlescent features of each unique pick.
Furthermore,
we will be able to reduce the thickness of these picks down to 2.5mm,
with the standard thickness being 4mm.
When will this new Ragnarok Series become available?
They'll be here before you know it, so stay tuned!
The projected release date is sometime in the first 2 weeks of November.
Updates will be sent out via our e-mail list,
which you can subscriber to >here<

]]>Related: More Cool Guitar Plectrums To Try
So how do we get rugged?
This "Imperial" material is not your average plastic as we've said.
It takes root from a different industry not related to guitars
(Yes we like to mix things up, it's what makes us who we are).
The origin of our material begins in the handgun & knife arena.
Sounds deadly, but it's most commonly used to craft grip handles (highly polished ones at that).
The idea of using this material solely on the characteristic of grip was already established.
It inspired us to try something totally NEW:
craft some incredible guitar picks in the vein of the ancient Roman empire!
Something fit for a Caesar...
And so the Imperial Series was born.
Four pick models where initially released,
with an additional two (large tri-picks) being added shortly after.
Here's the lineup from smallest to largest:
Xiphos (Jazz3-style, named after the ever popular xiphos sword from the era)
Aegis (Elongated & sharper Jazz-3, named after the legendary shield wielded by Zeus & Athena)
Bellona (A more "rounded" jazz-styled pick, named after the Roman goddess of war)
Imperator (Perhaps our most popular, & closest to a full sized plec with a sharper tip.
It's named after the title given only to triumphant & proven commanders)
Archon (a large equilateral tri-pick, equally powerful on all sides. Name meaning Ruler or Governor)
Legatus (A 3-in-1 tri-tip model, named after the equivalent of a General of senatorial rank)
So a solid material basis is set.
But we had to take it a step further in our craft.
That's why each pick has its own unique aqua-glow signature.
Yes each of these beautifully crafted guitar picks has a glow-in-the-dark accent.
Just beam some light at any of them, either from a flashlight, direct sunlight,
or even a blacklight (like you would find onstange), and the pick comes to life.
It's a cool blue (aqua) that holds its glow rather well,
just another special touch that makes an Iron Age pick wave its standard proud.
But what's really the special ingredient in all of this?
It's the fact that each pick is meticulously handcrafted with intent.
You're not receiving something processed mechanically en masse & placed on the shelf.
Blood, sweat, & tears are required to make these,
as with anything worth doing right.
Sure we can cut our pick blanks in small batch quantities,
it helps us save time & produce a most consistent product for you.
But after that, each pick is not fully made until you order it.
It's then, that it receives its ownership & brought into existence.
It is CREATED specially for you & with the intent to provide you an extravagant experience.
Dozens have already received their Imperial Series picks in the past couple of weeks.
Do you want to try something new & specially made for you?
Maybe pick that looks & feels incredible in your hand?
Something as unique as you & the rest of your gear?
We're ready when you are.

]]>What is Agate?
Agate is a type of crystal very similar to quartz. It is extremely hard, measuring in at a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale which makes it literally harder than nails. Agate was used to adorn breastplates of armor to give warriors strength in ancient times. Various agates & gemstones were also used as amulets of protection for those going into battle. It's for that reason that this material resonated further with out brand & the decision was a no-brainer.
The agate itself is derived from compressed & molten minerals, most of which are silicon dioxide. It takes many years to form and an immense volcanic pressure. While raw agate can be rather coarse & unrefined, it can be polished into an extremely smooth surface. By polishing our picks to a high degree, well above 10k grit, we can achieve optimal playability.
The process each batch goes through starts with cutting the raw agates & then slicing them into thinner slabs. Once the agate sheets are cut, we begin to draw out the shapes and perpare to cut them out. Each shape at this point is called a "blank" and will be further grinded down into the desired form. Once we have a rough pick, it undergoes several stages of polishing to give it more definition & of course give it a reflective finish. The final product is a perfectly smooth & shaped guitar pick that's ready for engraving with our stamp of approval.
How do they feel
While a pick of this thickness (approximately 2.5) might feel a bit odd at first, it does have its own benefit. As stated in one of the reviews by The Pick, once you hold one of these plectrums, you'll feel that they're noticeably heavier compared to plastic. This takes a bit getting used to, especially on the bigger "traditional sized" model, but it does provide some extra "oopmh" when playing some chunky rhythms. As far as thickness goes, it is definitely doable as the body of the pick might be 2.5mm but the edges at the tip are only about 1.5mm.
Now when you grasp one of these picks, you know for certain you're holding something. It feels solid & dense with absolutely no flex. Each pick is also engraved with the Iron Age lettering so there's a bit of a tactile grip.
While some people feel they might lose it, I assure you that you'll likely be aware of its location at all times. It's akin to getting a new guitar, where you're extra careful not to bump it on anything, or get so much as a fingerprint on it.
How they sound
The overall tone is a warm & glass-like, very much like their appearance. Due to its hardness & mass, they also tend to produce a fuller sound without having to strike the strings as hard.
The picking attack is rather smooth & not too aggressive like some of the bone picks. This is because the bevels are highly polished and lightly tapered instead of dropping off sharply. It's a nice sound which can bring a whole new appreciation on the acoustic guitar, although it's pleasant on the electric too.
If you've ever used a plectrum made from glass, you might find that these agate stone guitar picks have a similar characteristic. I almost forgot to mention, those looking to play a bit faster, might appreciate the jazz3 version more. It's noticeably lighter, still produces an exquisite tone, & allows for more agile playing techniques.
Why we prefer agate stone guitar picks
So why the sudden switch to the agate material? While regular stone like jasper looks nice, it often has a less pure composition containing various types of rock & sediments. The problem is that not all of these extra materials polish as well, or are as durable. While they do sound nice, some parts of the pick can begin to wear faster than others & sometimes turn scratchy.
With agate, the material is more consistent & pure, like a crystal or similar to a piece of quartz. It's harder than jasper & typically more dense. This makes it harder to work with & polish, but makes for a more permanent playing solution.
Along with its high degree of polish, comes the benefit of a smooth tone that's unwavering. Agate stays glassy-smooth for longer & the tone reflects that. It's for that reason that agate has become the material of choice vs our other rocky counterparts.
Where to buy them
If you're into trying something new, these agate stone guitar picks might be something worth considering. Not only are they unique in the material & tone, but they're a nice addition to any pick collection. An agate pick is one that will stand the test of time & keep you playing for hours on end.
You can purchase our new Agate Stone Guitar Picks by visiting our main webstore @ Iron Age Guitar Accessories
Had a chance to try the new agate stone picks and couldn't be happier... I would recommend them to anyone who plays, especially if your looking for a nice tone and high quality feel from a guitar pick!

]]>In what shape or form? We'll let you know that we're now stocking two options for 100% carbon fiber pickguards. There's a model for the classic stratocaster (S-S-S Config) and your standard telecaster with a single neck pickup.
The pickguards themselves are made from a solid piece of CF; extremely sturdy, extremely shiny, and replicated down to the original counter-sunk holes.
They're precision cut & hand-finished to include a uniform bevel and fine polishing for eye-popping aesthetic.
Will they fit your strat or tele? That's easy to check, simply count the holes on your current pickguard!
The strat model has a total of 11 guitar mounting screws, which by the way are available in 3 different finishes (Black, Chrome, & Gold).
The telecaster model has 8 mounting holes with a configuration for the standard single neck pickup.
An added benefit to having a carbon fiber pickguard is that CF is a good conductor which can be used to ground your electronics. Not only that, but it's also known to be effective at blocking Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) to keep unwanted noise out of your pickup's signal for quieter operation.
Please note this is the very first batch & these weren't the easiest to obtain, so only a handful are available for each model.
We couldn't possibly recreate so many configurations for all guitars at this time, but if you would be interested in seeing a carbon fiber pickguard for your guitar model, let us know by leaving a comment below!
So far, one in mind is for the Ibanez RG HH-config. Many have got a HSH but don't use the single in the middle so what better way to remove & cover it up :) What do you think?

They ship worldwide, price includes free U.S. priority shipping or free international shipping.
Only a handful are available for this 1st batch. If you would like to see a model made for your guitar in the future, please comment below. These Pickguards are now available in the Carbon Fiber Section.
]]>We're now proud to unveil our new Legio Ferrata Series (LFS), or "Iron Clad Legion" Performance Picks.
They're designed to keep you playing longer, faster, & more comfortably. How do we intend to accomplish this? By using a very resilient thermoplastic as our platform.
Its got an unbelievable resistance to abrasion whereas it tends to glide even on sandpaper! The extremely low friction property will have it sliding off the strings almost instantly to maximize your picking efficiency and minimize unwanted pick noise.
However, don't worry about it affecting your grip. These have a velvet-like finish that not only feels amazing, but has a strange quality that lets you to dig into the pick without slippage. Check out the video below to see just how each one is being made. This is just 1 of the 3 models to come.
The Pugio - A highly decorated Roman dagger. Often carried by legionnaire officers & other dignitaries of the Roman Empire. A small but very agile pick.
The Spearhead - Our signature offering, now upgraded to outperform & over-deliver. Ready to shred at a moments notice - The Iron Age flagship.
The Centurion - A Roman officer in charge of 100 men. They sought to display the skill and courage that fueled the legion by leading from the front. The centurion was chosen for his size, strength and dexterity in battle; in short for his expertness in the field. This is a solid pick that's great all around, from rhythm to lead.
]]>
Here at Iron Age, we're always searching for a fresh perspective & innovative ways to change the way you connect with your music. While we tend to favor more natural materials, this time we're taking a more modern approach.
As you may know, carbon fiber (or graphite fiber) is composed of tightly woven fibers which are only a few micrometers in diameter but extremely strong. Carbon Fiber is essentially stronger than steel, but lighter than aluminum. It's a material commonly found in the aerospace industry & a prime choice for various exotic high-end vehicles.
The reason for its popularity, is because of its high strength-to-weight ratio. This makes it a super tough material while weighing close to nothing.
Look, Feel, Sound
When CF is used to make a pick, the result is a guitar pick that is unusually rigid while keeping a more familiar thin profile. Perfect for those that would like a stiff pick but prefer the feel & playing of something along the lines of .73mm in thickness.
Only a couple of batches were made last year and they were a huge hit, this is why we've decided to bring em back as a regular line-up. Only this time they've been revised for extra grip with the addition of two grip holes.
Two of our own versions of a standard & jazzIII shape have also been made available to best suit your playing style. Not only do they look & feel nice, but they deliver a crispy tone that's satisfying even on an acoustic guitar. The best way to describe this is an instant & satisfying snap when you pluck the strings. They have a bright attack & overall tone, almost as if they were made of metal.
How They're Made
It all starts with a solid sheet of carbon fiber, no laminates are used to prevent any fraying or delamination. These .60mm thick sheets of CF are then precision-cut to our exact specifications. Here is where many simple vendors end their process, if they have a process at all.
What sets our carbon fiber picks apart from many other jagged & unrefined "pick blanks" out there, is that even though our picks are machine cut, every single one is hand finished. They all feature a nicely smoothed bevel for a fluid attack & release off the strings. There's no scratchy & half done none-sense here, no splintering, or delaminating. We only offer top quality materials with an attention to detail towards playability.

These are just excellent quality. Very attractive picks.

I was amazed at how thin but rigid it was. It's nice and sharp with good grip.
